Somali Community Event 2007
On November 2, 2007, the King County's Somali community celebrated the work accomplished in 2007. Over two hundred people attended, including local community leaders and politicians.
After a sharing a meal, those gathered at the New Holly Community Center listened to speeches from East Africans and local officials on the difficulties still facing the community. The topics included education, East African businesses, health and housing, and youth and family.
We were especially proud to offer our first ever Community Awards to a set of special recipients.
These people were instrumental in supporting the recent growth of EACS:
Leah McCollough, Principle Consultant, LCM Consulting
Vicki Asakur, Executive Director, NonProfit Assistance Center
Primala Jayapal, Executive Director, The Hate Free Zone
Hussein Abdi, Somali Community Member and School Tutor
This celebration was a great first step towards giving East Africans in the King County a strong voice within their community. Thank you to everyone who attended our First Annual Somali Community Event. We hope to see you next year!
