Our Mission

An inclusive organization, EACS is dedicated to improving the well-being and quality of life of refugees and their families in King County. We provide our clients with the tools to successfully adjust to life in the United States while simultaneously preserving their diverse cultural heritages.

Our Story

East African Community Services (EACS) was born in 2000 out of a new and growing need in Washington's King County. In the last seven years, approximately 17,000 Somali refugees have made King County their home, increasing both the refugee population and the need for culturally specific support and advocacy.

In 2000, after many of these refugees had arrived, community leaders established a service organization through collaborations and partnerships with local community agencies and stakeholders. This organization was called the Refugee Social Development Resource Center.

In 2001, the scope of this predominantly Somali organization broadened to include all of Eastern Africa. Today, EACS brings together members from the major sectors of the East African refugee community.

EACS has established a strong record of service in the King County, easing the cultural shock of refugees throughout the area, through culturally specific advocacy, information, referral, and direct service. EACS has a clear understanding of the needs of its clients, a high level of trust with in the community, and a high profile presence among the East African population in King County.
