Parent Leadership Training & Advocacy Institute (PLTI)
The Parent Leadership Training & Advocacy Institute (PLTI) emerged as a natural extension of EACS’ youth and family work. The PLTI exists to provide material and social support for parents of youth enrolled in our education, mentorship programs. In fact, parental participation in the Institute is mandatory for all youth enrolled in our program. This requirement creates better informed parents who are actively involved in their children’s educational journeys.

Program Content
The PLTI convenes professionals’ diverse backgrounds to educate our parents on a myriad of topics pertinent to quality of life for our youth and families. Content areas include but are not limited to:
- Family Introduction Night (for parents of youth enrolled in education or mentorship programs)
- Family Advocacy in Public School Systems
- Mental Health and Wellness for East African Families
- Domestic Violence in the East African communities
- Youth Violence, Gang Participation and Family/Community Intervention
- College Preparation for East African Immigrant Youth
- SmartJobs: The Alternative Option for East African refugee and immigrant youth
- Honoring the Youth Voice: The responsibility of East African parents to actively listen to their children
- Police Violence and the East African Community.
Service Delivery
PLTI convenes once per month via Zoom or in-person (when government guidelines allow). Sessions will occur in our NewHolly Headquarters, for 1-to-2-hour sessions (dependent upon content).
